Emerald Nightmare Gear Guide

In Legion by Babylonius

This guide specifically focuses on what you need to worry about when leveling up and preparing to raid. Things like Rotations, Artifact Paths, Legendaries, and Talent Choices can be found in the TL:DR Guide and Wordy Guide, so will not be repeated here. There are also a dozen different guides on leveling and other aspects, so no need to repeat those.

Looking at Emerald Nightmare gear is incredibly difficult, in my opinion, its harder than any other period in World of Warcraft. This is 100% because Mythic+ dungeons. Currently Mythic+ maxes out at 865 ilvl at Mythic+10, with a weekly cache for one 880 piece, if you finish M+10 that week. Everyone will be at differing levels of content, so it makes it very difficult to make a general statement about what is “best”.

Stats

Its decently easy to determine the rough stats you want to aim for. Because we’ve tested and found gaps where stats become even with one another we an roughly approximate the stat ratings you want to aim for. Ideally Mastery is 4500 above Versatility. Versatility is 400 above Critical Strike (800 for Blood Elves). Haste should be kept below 10%, although 0% is completely reasonable, or any space in between. Haste shouldn’t be avoided, but not sought after either.

Because of the variety of gear in dungeons, at equal item level, dungeon gear can be customized to balance around the stat gaps much easier. Versatility is almost nonexistent on Emerald Nightmare gear, its likely that Versatility enchants and gems will be most beneficial if you’re struggling to find some on gear unless you balance it with some Vers heavy dungeon gear.

BiS Gear

If you’re looking for a BiS list, you wont find it here; there are too many variables. If you’re really hard pressed for one, then I recommend using AskMrRobot, setting the parameters for what content you want to filter, and letting them do it for you. This works well for all slots, except trinkets, which are more difficult to just say what is best.

Trinkets

Trinkets have always been a little complicated. Because of the wide range of trinkets available in dungeons, it’s been increasingly complicated to try and find the “best”. Trinkets are also the hardest thing to use a gear optimizer or stat weights for. These are the current best trinkets to aim for through Emerald Nightmare and M+ dungeons.

**Disclaimer: These rankings are based on SimulationCraft’s Mythic profile run through a 300s Patchwerk and HecticAddCleave simulation. Trinket ilvls were done without any need for WF/TF. These rankings do not necessarily reflect how the trinkets will perform compared to your gear. Trinkets with static Haste can vary greatly, so take those with the most grains of salt.**

If you have any trinket that is a different ilvl or includes a socket or anything else, it is recommended to use SimCraft or AMR to sim yourself with both options to get your answer. You can see that all trinkets are within 6.5% of each other, on average, so there isn’t a huge difference between them.
